What the National Catalog and NTIN are for a Kaspi seller

The National Catalog of Goods (NCT) is Kazakhstan’s state system where every product is assigned an NTIN: a 13-digit code starting with 02. From 2026 the state phases in a requirement that every sold product be registered in the catalog. For a Kaspi seller the rule is simple: no NTIN, no legal sale — the till, e-invoices and the marketplace all check against the catalog.

Why the barcode (GTIN) path is the fastest

If a product has a factory barcode (GTIN), it is usually already described in the catalog — and its NTIN is found automatically in seconds. That clears most of your range without a single manual card. Barcode-less products are the long tail: for them a card in NCT must be filled in by hand (ОКТРУ, HS code, name in Russian and Kazakh, country, attributes). So the first sensible step is to learn how many of your products are covered by the fast path and how many need manual work — which is exactly what the readiness check at the top of this page shows.

How much it costs and where the savings are

Registration in NCT is a free government service — there is no separate fee for an NTIN. The money in this niche goes to middlemen: a typical rate is around 50 ₸ per product, and turnkey manual registration of a hundred items is priced in the tens of thousands of tenge. The temporary XTIN code — a bridge, not a solution

If a product is not yet in the catalog, the till can assign a temporary XTIN code (starts with 004) for about 30 days so the receipt passes. It helps in the moment but does not remove the obligation to obtain a permanent NTIN. You cannot rely on XTIN as a permanent solution: the term is limited and it is not a replacement for registration.

Who the requirement applies to

The requirement covers everyone who sells physical goods: sole traders and companies, on simplified or general tax regimes, own production and resale. If you only resell someone else’s product with a factory barcode, you usually don’t create a card from scratch — the product is already in the catalog and you just find its NTIN by GTIN. Services, work and digital products are not covered by NCT — it is only about goods.

What to do if there is no barcode

Some goods — loose, no-name, handmade, small-batch imports — have no factory GTIN. There are two paths: obtain a barcode via GS1 Kazakhstan and then an NTIN, or create a card in NCT manually as own production, specifying ОКТРУ, HS code, a name in two languages and attributes (GTIN is not required there). To avoid stopping sales during processing, the till can temporarily assign an XTIN.

Common registration mistakes

• Wrong ОКТРУ — the most common reason a card is returned for revision.
• Missing Kazakh name: it is mandatory alongside the Russian one.
• Confusing GTIN and NTIN — they are different codes with different purposes.
• Wrong HS code (ТН ВЭД) or missing measurable attributes.
• Leaving registration to the last days — with moderation that already means being late.

If the card is returned «for revision»

NCT returns the card noting the field to fix — most often the attributes, units of measure or ОКТРУ. Fix what is listed and resubmit; the re-check runs for the same period. Don’t create a duplicate card — that only lengthens the process and creates extra records.

Do you need an NTIN for other marketplaces

The requirement is national, not «about Kaspi»: an NTIN is equally needed for Halyk Market, Wildberries and Ozon in Kazakhstan, as well as for the offline till. Register a product once in the National Catalog and you cover every sales channel at once — no need to re-do it per platform.
